frequently asked questions
(1) What is geospatial information and technology?
Well, it’s really not all that complicated. It’s data and information that has a location-based component, combined with tools that help individuals visualize and analyze spatial information. Commercial, industrial and government organizations have strategically used geographic information systems (GIS) for years to be better about business. Touching this sort of technology has been largely unattainable for everyday consumers, which is why we’re focusing on making it relatable and meaningful for you by providing you with the ability to visualize and analyze your future.
(2) How do you know that “Place can make you better”?
There is an enormous amount of research around the “happiest cities” and the “best cities.” Sociologists have studied for years the effects of place on well-being. Place is a consideration for everyone no matter what their priorities—family, loan repayment, a job or education. People use “where” and everything associated with it as a primary factor for whatever is next in their lives. "Place" results in what they will do every day and ultimately where they go in life.
(3) Is (To) just for the medical community? Just for doctors?
We've started with physicians because there are clear transition points and decisions they must make where location presents real value. Our goal is to support the entire health market in 2017, and ultimately new markets—boomers considering retirement, veterans transitioning to civilian life and college students exploring where they should go after graduation. It's never too early to consider "where" with whatever you're thinking about next.
(4) How does an organization interact with (To)?
Contact us! We want to be the face of technology for organizations that feel stuck reaching their constituents in meaningful ways. We want to work with you because we believe that the combination of our platform and your content will ultimately lead to our vision for creating technology designed for immediate and rewarding benefits. The type of relationship we have with organizations is largely dependent on your needs, and we’re ready to have that conversation.
(5) When will (To) be available for the Android platform?
When you develop anything for the first time, you have to make hard decisions. This was one of them. While we recognize that our product must work on any platform, we also had to focus on development and refinement of features rather than scale in order to create a stable and enjoyable solution. Transition to Android will occur within the first 3–6 months post-launch.
(6) What about non-U.S. locations?
We wanted to solve what we know before we branched out beyond our borders, which is why (To) focuses only on US locations and opportunities, from school to retirement. (To) is currently available for use by anyone in the United States considering what's next—for school, residency or practice, but physicians (MD and DO) will reap the greatest rewards in this first version of our product simply because we focus on locations and data points where medical school and residency program opportunities exist in our 50 states.
(7) How is this (To) different than other location or job-matching applications?
We start with “where.” It's a component that is very much overlooked in location or job-matching apps. We developed (To) with place in mind first; a fundamentally different approach from other possible solutions. We have taken the time to understand the significant role location plays in decision-making. “Where” is what helps you locate opportunities that you didn’t know existed; it’s what helps guide prioritization for places you want to visit; it's what helps you get a handle on where you fit best; and it’s what will shape who you are beyond your career—your health, happiness and overall well-being.
(8) Why does (To) cost me money?
We want (To) to be a completely private experience for you. We want you to focus on discovery, exploration and the best version of yourself, without the distracting 3rd Party advertisements that we'd have no choice but to include if we were to attempt to offer this for free at this very early stage. In order to sustain our investment in v1.0 and move forward with new features and capabilities, we ask that consumers pay a nominal fee for our services. Our intent is to continue development of those services and content long into the future. In this initial offering, you’re basically getting a subscription without any sort of recurring payment. In the future, we plan to transition to a subscription-based model to meet your needs and improve our product offerings.
(9) Why would I use (To) for more than making a move or during a transition?
Because it’s relevant every day. Most people stay in a role for about three years—whether for school, a job or residency (in a doctor’s case). That’s because in the Gig Economy, individuals can move freely, with ease. (To) is for every moment you feel there might be something better out there for you, and especially if you’re feeling stuck and need fresh place possibilities. (To)’s Feed feature presents you with meaningful everyday news, events and happenings where you are right now, or where you want to be next, serving as a go-to source of information designed around you.
(10) Not every City and Neighborhood is represented, why?
Solving the “where” dilemma for everyone through (To) will take further development. Starting with locations at the intersection of medical schools and teaching hospitals where data are rich helps us plan for scaling our future service offerings. Delivering meaningful content to you through place is part of our business model, which is why we will continue to deliver detailed data to you in a number of ways. Place information and content in (To) is updated as frequently as your Feed. With (To), we aim to provide the most organized and comprehensive analysis of location information that actually can guide your decisions
(11) Can (To) help me plan my vacation?
In theory, (To) can be used by anyone for any purpose. However, it wasn’t really designed for vacation planning. It’s bigger than that because it's about your life year-round. It’s our intent for (To) to be so valuable and meaningful to your everyday life that you’d never want to leave home without it.
(12) Where does (To) data come from and why is it so important?
We own our own data and supplement it with sourced content where we feel it’s best for you. We’ve identified the best sources from which we derive micro-level location data and information. Sometimes those sources already exist in the world, and we simply connect the dots for you through our platform. When information falls short of your needs and expectations, we work to provide you custom content that would otherwise be unattainable.
(13) How does (To) identify places that are unique to each person?
Well, as with all things in life, you have to participate. Answer questions, bookmark things that interest you or want to reference, "like" places or schools or not—it's all part of the (To) learning process for bringing you more meaningful content in the future. Our technical algorithms get better when you're willing to help us and yourself along the way.
(14) What’s next for (To)?
We’ll let you answer that. Your feedback will help us go further. Technology can be a great thing if the right people and information are behind it, and that’s the consumer void we intend to fill.
(15) Does (To) have any social capabilities?
(To) is completely private (at least for now). We’ve focused our efforts on delivering valuable content and data that other applications and systems have overlooked for so long. We want to get "place" right first and deliver what you need to make your next best decision. If that means adding social components down the road, then so be it, but we aren't there just yet.
